Philip Mease
Dr Mease is Director of Rheumatology Research at the Swedish Medical Center and Providence St Joseph Health and Clinical Professor at the University of Washington School of Medicine, Seattle, WA. His clinical practice is based at Seattle Rheumatology Associates. Dr Mease earned his undergraduate and medical degrees at Stanford University, Stanford, CA and completed his residency in internal medicine and a fellowship in rheumatology at the University of Washington School of Medicine.
Dr Mease’s research interests include psoriatic arthritis (PsA), spondyloarthritis (SpA), rheumatoid arthritis (RA), osteoarthritis (OA), fibromyalgia (FM) and osteoporosis, focusing on disease state, outcome measure development and the efficacy and safety of emerging therapies for these conditions. He has authored over 500 journal articles, book chapters and many hundreds of abstracts, and edited textbooks on PsA and axial SpA. He is a reviewer for multiple journals including New England Journal of Medicine, The Lancet, Arthritis & Rheumatology, Arthritis Care & Research, Annals of the Rheumatic Diseases, The Journal of Rheumatology and Seminars in Arthritis and Rheumatism. Dr Mease is a prolific international speaker at academic congresses, educator for rheumatologists and dermatologists, and is considered an international opinion leader on SpA.
Dr Mease is a past president and founding organizer of the Group for Research and Assessment of Psoriasis and Psoriatic Arthritis (GRAPPA) and is a member of the Assessment of Spondyloarthritis International Society and the Spondyloarthritis Research and Treatment Network. He has also been active in the Outcome Measures in Rheumatology (OMERACT) research organization as co-chair of the PsA and chronic pain working groups and as a member of the steering committee.
Arthur Kavanaugh, MD - USA
Arthur Kavanaugh, is a board-certified rheumatologist who diagnoses and treats patients with autoimmune conditions as well as diseases of the joints, muscles and bones. These conditions may include rheumatoid arthritis, osteoarthritis, gout, chronic back pain, tendonitis, and lupus.
Dr. Kavanaugh serves as director of the Center for Innovative Therapy in the Division of Rheumatology, Allergy and Immunology at UC San Diego. He is professor at UC San Diego School of Medicine, where he trains medical students, residents and fellows. His clinical research focuses on rheumatoid arthritis and psoriatic arthritis. He also conducts studies on other autoimmune conditions, including systemic lupus erythematosus, ankylosing spondylitis and inflammatory bowel disease.
Dr. Kavanaugh completed fellowship training in rheumatology at UT Southwestern in Dallas and in allergy and immunology at Baylor College of Medicine in Houston, where he also completed his internal medicine residency. Dr. Kavanaugh earned his medical degree at Saint Louis University School of Medicine in St. Louis, Mo.
He was an inaugural member and remains active in the Academy of Clinician Scholars. He serves as divisional representative to the UC San Diego Medical Group Quality Council, with responsibility for quality improvement within the division.
AMIT GARG - USA
About Amit Garg, MD
Dr. Garg is a Professor and the Founding Chair for the Department of Dermatology at the Donald and Barbara Zucker School of Medicine at Hofstra / Northwell. He is a Professor in the Center for Health Innovation and Outcomes Research at the Feinstein Institutes for Medical Research. Dr. Garg also serves as Chair of the Board of Governors for Northwell Health Physician Partners. He is board certified in Dermatology by the American Board of Dermatology. Dr. Garg earned his medical degree from the University of Massachusetts Medical School. He completed his internship and residency in dermatology at the University of Illinois at Chicago. He has held faculty positions at University of Massachusetts and at Boston University Medical Center, where he directed the Residency Training Program in Dermatology as well as the undergraduate medical curricula in dermatology for the school of medicine. Dr. Garg's funded research interests include identification of comorbidities using Big Data, and development of disease and outcome measures in hidradenitis suppurativa and psoriasis. Through his grants, Dr. Garg has also developed innovative teaching strategies to improve training and education outcomes, including the development and validation of a skin cancer OSCE. He has published a number of articles in the peer-reviewed literature and has authored several book chapters. Dr. Garg has had leadership roles within prominent national professional organizations, including the American Academy of Dermatology, the American Board of Dermatology, the Accreditation Counsel of Graduate Medical Education, the Association of Professors of Dermatology, the Medical Dermatological Society, the National Psoriasis Foundation, the Hidradenitis Suppurativa Foundation, the Group for Research and Assessment of Psoriasis and Psoriatic Arthritis, and the CHORD COUSIN Collaboration (C3). Dr. Garg also serves on editorial boards for the Journal of the American Academy of Dermatology. He is editor-in-chief of the first edition book on Rheumatic Skin Diseases. Dr. Garg was awarded the 2016 Thomas G. Pearson, EdD Memorial Education Award by the American Academy of Dermatology. Dr. Garg has achieved international recognition as a skilled medical dermatologist and a medical educator. His subspecialty expertise is in interdisciplinary based care for patients with autoimmune and inflammatory skin diseases including psoriasis, hidradenitis suppurativa, lupus, dermatomyositis, and vasculitis.
